Prof Syed Jaffry is a Consultant Urologist and specialist in Minimally Invasive Surgery, practising at University Hospital Galway since 2001 and at Bon Secours Hospital since 2002. With an extensive background in urological surgery and minimally invasive techniques, Prof Jaffry has pioneered several advanced procedures in Ireland, including laser prostate surgery and sutureless circumcision.

Prof Jaffry specialises in minimally invasive, laparoscopic urological procedures, with a focus on kidney surgery, including cancer treatment, PUJ obstruction, and kidney stones. He is a pioneer of Photoselective Vaporisation of the Prostate (PVP) laser surgery for prostate conditions in Ireland and has contributed significantly to the field of prostate cancer diagnosis using template fusion biopsies. Prof Jaffry also has expertise in male and female incontinence surgery, interstitial cystitis, and urinary tract infections (UTIs). His innovative work in sutureless circumcision has been recognised and published in peer-reviewed journals.
Prof Jaffry completed his RCSI surgical training scheme in 1996 before pursuing further specialised training in Urology and Minimally Invasive Surgery in various countries, including Ireland, the UK, France, and the USA. He obtained a Diploma in Minimally Invasive Surgery from Strasbourg, France, and received advanced laser prostate training in the USA. Additionally, he holds a Master’s degree in Medical Science (MMedSci) in research from the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG). Prof Jaffry is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS), the American College of Surgeons (FACS), and the European Board of Urology (FEBU).

In addition to his FRCS, Prof Jaffry holds several prestigious fellowships, including a Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and the European Board of Urology (FEBU).
